Mr. Owens- Director of bands
Mr. Owens has been teaching music in the public schools of North and South Carolina for the past twenty six years. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Furman University in Greenville, SC and a Master's degree in Music Education from Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts. He is Nationally Board Certified in Early Adolescent through Young Adult Music. Mr. Owens has taught Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Beginning Band, Music Appreciation, Music Theory, Chorus, General Music, and Effective Speaking in grades five through twelve over his twenty year career. He is currently an Adjunct Instructor of Music at Central Piedmont Community College. He has served as the Director of Bands and Music Department Chairperson at Crescent High School in Iva, South Carolina, the Director of Bands and Fine Arts Department Chairperson at Carmel Middle School in Charlotte, North Carolina, the Director of Bands and Fine Arts Department Chairperson at A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis, North Carolina and as Music Director at Kannapolis Intermediate School in Kannapolis, North Carolina. His playing credits include the Greenville Symphony Orchestra (Greenville, SC), the UNCC Community Band (principal), the Gulf Wind Ensemble (Clearwater, FL), the Greenville Lakeside Jazz Band (principal), the City Players (Clearwater, FL), and a founding member of the Furman Saxophone Quartet which was featured at the 1991 North American Saxophone Alliance National Conference. He also founded the Phi Mu Alpha Professional Music Fraternity Jazz Ensemble at Furman University and served as it's conductor from 1990 through 1992.
